What Kind of Lighting?
Choosing the right system depends on getting an accurate assessment of the overall level of illumination required.
In all cases the uniformity of the light across a sports surface is just as important as the level of lighting. It is crucially important to light beyond the baselines, outside the sidelines and above the court or pitch… in other words to simulate the natural daylight as near as possible. Uneven lighting will result in objects appearing to travel faster or slower in some areas. Different configurations will result in more or less evenness of the overall light.
Establishing the required level of illumination is very important. Beginners and intermediate players generally move a ball more slowly therefore less light is needed to see the ball. Advanced players on the other hand require higher levels of lighting to ensure maximum visibility of the faster travelling ball.
